Kansas Recap: Season’s End!

The last Regional of the season is in the books – see the full recap below!

The final Regional of the season took place last Saturday at Collector’s Cache in Lenexa, KS – with 108 players in attendance! This event represented not only the end of the Vengeance metagame, but also the last chance to use the Premiere Set Masteries before they are frozen. Leading up to Awakening’s release, the environment at Kansas featured a less diverse field than seen in the past few weeks (with Black and Red at the top, and Orange trailing far behind the rest of the pack).

At a tournament making the final statement about the previous two years of the format, it was fitting that the final match featured the legendary Black Devious Krillin (Troy Nelson) against the newly omnipresent Red Ruthless Broly (Brandon Mains). Broly took down yet another Regional with the 2-1 match win, and it will be interesting to observe his place in the new meta!

A sincere thanks to every single person for their participation, judging assistance, spectating, streaming, and tournament organization through this season. Regionals are finished for 2016, but the season isn’t done yet!

After the latest addition of Brandon and Troy, only eight spots remain on the Worlds Qualified Player list.

Four invites will be up for grabs on November 5th at Dragon Prix: New Orleans. You can save $5 on entry by pre-registering here.

After that, the final opportunity to earn an invite to the 2016 World Championship will take place on Friday, November 11th at the Hyatt Regency DFW (for information about Worlds weekend, see here). Even if you don’t qualify for the main event, keep in mind that large side events will be running throughout the weekend! If you’d like to book using the group rate (available here), the deadline is October 27th.
