Mini Mailbag and Final Arizona Roll Call!

Hi folks! The Regional Season is in full swing, and its momentum continues to build with the announcement of Dragon Ball Z: Evolution. Of course, there were a lot of questions about what to expect from the new set:

“Will Androids be getting their own Mastery and is Android 16 a booster MP?”

 -Terry N. from Washington

There won’t be an Android Mastery, but there are some cards that interact with Android characters in a unique way. As far as MPs go, Evolution will contain Vegeta (Hero), [REDACTED], [REDACTED], [REDACTED], Android 17, Android 18, Android 19, and Android 20. Now you can begin speculation about which characters will be the booster MPs!

This time around, Starter Decks will be fully constructed builds that are tournament legal out of the box. They’ll contain a wide variety of reprinted cards from the first three sets, so new players will be able to hit the ground running!

“Now that Blue Guard is changed does it update how all discarded cards work like how Krillin works with Black Command? Any new judge system details? Thank you.”

Eric W.

The updated text of Blue Guard creates a replacement effect. Due to this, it had some new clarifications on how the timing works in certain specific instances. These changes would not impact Black Command or other “when this card is discarded…” cards that do not have replacement effects.

The judge program will continue to roll out during this OP season, and a more wide scale system will be pushed to stores in the future.

“Will Set 4 have new masteries?  If so, is there any chance that Set 4 will have more than one cycle of masteries?”

-Steve T. from Utah

Evolution will have a new Mastery for each Style, and you’ll continue to see a cycle of new Masteries with each Starter set. That being said, there are currently around 80 possible Level 1 MP/Mastery combinations in the game. When the next set releases, that number will skyrocket to 200! When you take into account the mixing and matching of MP Levels, the differences in strategy and design of decks even within the same MP/Style bucket, etc – you’ll have more than enough to chew on!

Evolution releases in the near future, but in the meantime our attention shifts to Arizona for tomorrow’s Regional at Play or Draw Gaming in Avondale, Arizona. On site registration begins at 9.30, with an 11 am start time. Check out their site for any last minute info, and you can always save time by filling out your Deck Registration Form in advance!
