2. NFL Five Card of the Week

The next matchup of the NFL postseason features the Vikings vs. the 49ers, and today’s COTW spotlight shines on San Francisco’s DeForest Buckner. Buckner’s ability is one of the few “replacement effects” currently available, and his successful activation will always result in a loss of yardage for your opponent! Aside from a heavy suite of Plays that stop runs, also look to pair this card with Energizing effects (such as Calais Campbell) – along with effects that modify range.

3. NFL Five FAQ

“I play a Long Pass with a range of 6-7, and my opponent uses the ability of Derwin James to decrease the range of the Play. After that, can I use the ability of Aaron Rodgers to change the range again?

NFL Five designer Brian Fahmie responds:

“Look at what the range potential would be without James’ effect. 4-7 on the low end, or 6-9 on the high end – therefore the range bound is 4-9, and Rodgers ability essentially allows you to choose any 2 digit range within (those parameters).”

In the above scenario, using the effect of Aaron Rodgers after Derwin James would allow you to change the range to 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, or 8-9. This will also be formally addressed in a future comprehensive rules document.
